Verses
- When in sorrow: John 14:1-3
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God[a]; trust also in
me. 2In
my
Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told
you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and
prepare
a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you
also
may be where I
am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going."
- When you have sinned: Psalm 51
1 Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I know my
transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
- When you worry: Matthew 6:25-27
25"Therefore
I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or
drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more
important
than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look
at the birds
of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your
heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than
they?
27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour
to his life[a]?
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [a]
I will fear no evil, for you are with me;
your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
- When you want peace and rest: Matthew 11:25-30
25At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and
earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and
revealed them to little children. 26Yes, Father, for this was your good
pleasure. 27"All things have
been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and
no one knows the Father except the Son and
those to whom
the Son chooses to reveal him.
28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give
you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble
in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is
easy and my burden is light."
- If you are depressed: Psalm 27
4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the LORD
all the days of my life,
to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD
and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his tabernacle
and set me high upon a rock.
15And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for
themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.
16So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. 17Therefore,
if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has
come! 18All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and
gave us the ministry of reconciliation: 19that God was reconciling the world to
himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them. And he has committed to
us the message of reconciliation.
- For Paul's secret to happiness: Colossians 3:12-17
12Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and
patience. 13Bear with each other and
forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the
Lord forgave you. 14And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all
together in perfect unity.
15Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of
one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16Let the word
of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all
wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitud in your hearts to God. 17And whatever you do, whether in
word or deed,
do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the
Father
through him.
